Curriculum Statement
At Farringdon, New Penshaw and Plains Farm Academies, we plan and teach a creative curriculum building upon and exploring our children’s interests. The curriculum is planned carefully and progressively, so that we can ensure there is coherence and full coverage of key skills and the National Curriculum. Our skills based approach helps children to develop and refine their key skills: problem solving, application of knowledge, computing and information technology, working with others, communication and improving learning and performance.
Wherever possible, our children learn through a wide range of practical tasks which are designed to support the development or refinement of key skills. Within their planning, our Teachers provide opportunities for children to apply the basic skills, with learning designed to enhance our children’s literacy and numeracy skills.
The curriculum within Inspire Academies is also enhanced through the planning and delivery of key educational visits and through visitors coming in to school to work with, support and share experiences with our children.

To support reading development we use the Phonics Bug Programme within our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. This is also used as an intervention programme for children in Years 3 and 4.The Oxford Reading Tree scheme is used.

In years 5 and 6 reading intervention is provided through a personalised intervention programme, designed specifically to support the needs of the individual child.
